How to wash cashmere
UncategorizedAs the leaves begin to change colors and the holiday season approaches, many of us are pulling out our favorite cozy cashmere sweaters. However, the last thing anyone wants is to ruin a cherished piece of clothing by washing it incorrectly. Perhaps you’ve just splurged on a beautiful cashmere item and want to keep it looking pristine, or maybe you’ve inherited a beloved cashmere garment that needs some TLC. Whatever the case may be, proper care is crucial to maintaining the softness and shape of your cashmere.
To wash cashmere, hand wash it in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent, rinse carefully, and lay it flat to dry away from direct sunlight.
Submerge your cashmere item in the water and let it soak for about 5 to 10 minutes. Gently press the fabric to allow the soapy water to penetrate, but refrain from wringing or twisting it, as this can cause damage. Next, drain the soapy water and refill the basin with clean lukewarm water to rinse. Gently press the fibers to remove detergent, repeating this step until the water runs clear.
Once rinsed, avoid wringing out the cashmere. Instead, lay the item flat on a clean, dry towel and roll it up to absorb excess water. Afterward, reshape the garment to its original form and lay it flat on a fresh towel to dry, ensuring it’s away from direct sunlight or heat sources, which can cause fading or shrinkage. With this careful washing method, your cashmere will remain soft, luxurious, and ready to keep you warm for many seasons to come.
