How to delete photos from google photos without deleting from phone

Uncategorized

We’ve all been there: your phone’s storage is nearing its limit, yet you can’t bear to part with your cherished photos. As you scroll through your Google Photos app, you might find yourself asking, “How can I free up some space without losing these memories?” This situation is common for many users who rely on Google Photos for backup but still want to maintain their local library. In this post, we’ll explore the best way to delete photos from Google Photos while keeping them safely stored on your phone.

To delete photos from Google Photos without deleting them from your phone, you’ll need to disable the backup and sync feature for those specific photos or simply delete them from the Google Photos app after making sure they’re downloaded to your device.

To achieve this effectively, follow these steps: First, ensure all the photos and videos you wish to delete from Google Photos are saved on your device. Open the Google Photos app and find the photos you want to keep. If they appear in the app but not on your phone, download them to your device by selecting the photo, tapping the three-dot menu, and choosing “Download.”

Once you have confirmed that the photos are safely stored on your phone, return to the Google Photos app. To delete the photos from Google Photos, tap on the photo or select multiple photos you wish to remove, then tap the recycling bin icon. Confirm your decision to delete them.

Remember, if you have backup and sync turned on, deleting a photo from Google Photos will also delete it from your device. To prevent this, you can turn off “Back up & sync” before you start. In doing so, your phone can keep its local copy, while the cloud versions are safely removed, giving you the breathing room you need on your device.
