How to change a keg
UncategorizedPicture this: it’s the weekend, your friends are gathered for a backyard barbecue, and the excitement is palpable. As the laughter and music fill the air, you pour the first round of beers from your keg. But just when the party hits its stride, you notice that the keg is running low. Your heart races as you think about how to quickly change the keg without losing the party vibe. If you’ve found yourself in this sticky situation, keep reading to learn how to switch out a keg like a pro.
To change a keg, first, ensure you have a new keg ready to go. Release the pressure from the old keg via the tap, disconnect it from the CO2 system, and remove the empty keg. Then, take the new keg, connect it to the CO2 system, and tap it securely. Finally, check for any leaks and pour a small glass to ensure the beer flows smoothly.
When changing a keg, start by ensuring that you have all necessary tools and a new keg on hand. First, turn off the CO2 tank to prevent any unwanted pressure release. Carefully pull the tap handle back to release any residual pressure in the old keg and prevent beer from spilling. Detach the coupler by turning it counter-clockwise and lifting it off the empty keg.
Now, take your new keg and position it securely in the fridge or keg cooler. Remove the protective cap from the new keg’s valve, then line up the coupler with the keg’s opening and press down firmly while turning it clockwise until it locks into place.
Next, reconnect the CO2 line by turning on the tank slowly and adjusting the pressure to the desired level. To ensure proper flow, pour a small amount of beer into a glass to “prime” the line and eliminate any foam from the initial pour. Keep an eye out for leaks around the connections, tightening them if necessary. With the new keg in place, you’re now ready to enjoy the refreshing beverage without missing a beat!
