How to clean makeup brushes

Uncategorized

As a makeup enthusiast, you know that clean tools are essential for achieving the perfect look and maintaining skin health. However, finding the time and the proper method to clean your brushes can often feel overwhelming. Perhaps you’ve recently noticed that your brush bristles are caked with leftover product, or maybe you’ve experienced some breakouts after using dirty tools. No matter the reason, it’s crucial to have an efficient routine for cleaning makeup brushes to ensure they remain in top condition.

To clean makeup brushes, first, rinse the bristles under lukewarm water. Then, apply a gentle soap or brush cleaner to the bristles, lather gently, and rinse until the water runs clear. Finally, reshape the bristles and lay the brushes flat to dry.

To elaborate further, start by gathering your supplies: a gentle brush cleanser (which can be a dedicated makeup brush shampoo, liquid hand soap, or even olive oil for natural options), lukewarm water, and a clean towel. Begin the cleaning process by wetting the bristles under lukewarm water, making sure to hold the brushes with the bristles facing down to avoid getting water in the ferrule (the metal part). Squeeze a small amount of soap into the palm of your hand or a small bowl.

Gently dip the bristles in the soap and swirl them to create a lather, being careful not to tug or pull the bristles too hard. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear, which ensures that all product residue is removed. For stubborn makeup, repeat the cleaning process as necessary. Once clean, gently reshape the bristles to their original form, and lay your brushes flat on a clean towel to dry. It’s essential to avoid drying them upright in a cup, as water can seep into the ferrule and loosen the glue, leading to bristle shedding. Clean your brushes regularly–ideally once a week–to keep your skin healthy and your application flawless.
