As you sift through old newsletters, confirmation emails, and irrelevant conversations, you realize it’s time for a clean slate. If you’re looking for a straightforward method to delete those old emails in Gmail and regain some control over your inbox, keep reading!
To delete old emails in Gmail, navigate to your inbox, use the search bar to filter emails by date or keyword (e.g., “before:2022/01/01” to find emails older than January 1, 2022), select the emails you’d like to delete, and then click the trash bin icon to move them to the Trash. You can also select all emails that appear in the search results by clicking the checkbox atop the list and then choosing ‘Select all conversations that match this search’ for a bulk deletion.
To elaborate, first, log into your Gmail account and head to your inbox. If you’re specifically looking to delete emails from a certain period, you can utilize Gmail’s powerful search functionality. For instance, typing “before:YYYY/MM/DD” or “after:YYYY/MM/DD” in the search bar will help you find emails outside a designated range, such as finding everything older than a specific date.
Once you have filtered the emails you want to delete, you can manually select individual emails by checking the boxes next to them. Alternatively, for a quicker approach, you can click the box at the top-left corner to select all visible emails on the page, and then click on the “Select all conversations that match this search” option, which allows you to include thousands of emails without manually clicking each one.
After selecting the unwanted emails, simply look for the trash bin icon at the top of the page and click it. This action will move all selected emails to the Trash folder. Remember, emails in the Trash are only temporarily removed; they will stay there for 30 days before being permanently deleted. If you want to expedite this process, you can go to the Trash folder and choose to ‘Empty Trash now’ to permanently delete those emails immediately.
