Fried potatoes come to mind, a dish so versatile that it can be a side or a star of the meal. With a few ingredients in your pantry, you can whip up this classic favorite that promises to delight your taste buds.

To make fried potatoes, peel and slice the potatoes, heat oil in a pan, and fry the slices until golden and crispy.

To prepare fried potatoes, start by selecting good-quality potatoes, such as russets or Yukon Golds. First, wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them into even shapes–whether rounds, wedges, or sticks–depending on your preference. The key is cutting them uniformly so they cook evenly. Next, heat a substantial amount of oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat; you can use vegetable oil, canola oil, or even a combination of oils for better flavor.

Once the oil is hot (around 350°F or 175°C, which you can test by dropping in a small piece of potato), carefully add the potato slices in a single layer. Don’t overcrowd the pan; you may need to fry them in batches. Cook the potatoes for about 5-7 minutes on one side until they turn golden brown and crispy, then flip them to fry the other side. After about 10-15 minutes in total, remove the fries with a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels. Season with salt and any other spices you like immediately after frying, and enjoy your delicious homemade fried potatoes, hot and crispy!
