To waltz effectively, follow these steps:

1. Positioning: Stand facing your partner with a comfortable hold. The free hands should be clasped together at shoulder height.

2. Basic Step: The basic waltz step consists of three counts. The follower mirrors this by stepping back with the right foot (count 1), shifting weight to the left (count 2), and bringing the right foot next to the left (count 3).

3. Timing: The waltz uses a 3/4 time signature, meaning there are three beats in each measure. The basic rhythm goes “ONE, two, three.” Emphasizing the first beat helps to maintain the feel of the dance.

4. Swaying and Turns: Incorporate a gentle sway with your upper body as you move, allowing your frames to stay connected. You can also include simple turns by leading your partner in a graceful spin as you both step around each other.
